Local History Books
The Carnegie Heritage Centre inherited the book stock from Chris Ketchell’s Local History Unit and this has been supplemented over the years to a stock of over 4,700 items. These are arranged in three main areas: Hull Books; East Yorkshire and beyond; and General Books, the latter mainly concentrating on the two World Wars.
The stock is fully catalogued and available for use in the Carnegie Heritage Centre but cannot be taken out.
A large collection of books, researched by volunteers, funded by the Heritage Lottery and published in-house, list the Hull Area War Dead from both World Wars along with brief biographical details.
A further 200 local antiquarian books are also available in .pdf format and there is an extensive digital collection of over 4,600 digitised items including a large collection of photographs of Hull and its buildings.
We also sell second hand books which have been donated to us and which we already have on our shelves.
