Annie Major MBE

Annie Major was Hull’s first female Lord Mayor, serving her term of office in 1965-66 and being awarded the MBE in 1965. During her term as Lord Mayor, Annie visited several local industrial companies and attended the Lord Mayor of London’s banquet for the President of Austria. Visitors to Hull that year included HRH Princess Alexandra, a Royal Navy Squadron, the Royal Marines, Ministers of State and representatives of foreign governments. Annie died in 1981.
