Fenner Dunlop Europe (trading name of J H Fenner And Co Ltd

Marfleet, HU9 5RA

The Fenner Group was founded in 1861 by Joseph Henry Fenner. Its first premises were in Chapel Lane in Hull’s Old Town, the company subsequently moving to Marfleet, which was then a village outside Hull. Fenner Dunlop Europe is now a member of Fenner Dunlop Conveyor Belting Worldwide, a division of Fenner PLC, the world’s leading manufacturer of conveyor belting for mining and industrial applications. The loss of 80 men in the 1950 disaster at Cresswell Colliery in Derbyshire, ironically contributed to the company’s development. A fire started in a jammed conveyor belt, generating poisonous fumes and trapping the men behind a wall of flame. Following this, the Coal Board asked Fenner to develop the first fire resistant conveyor belt, which is still the world standard in underground coal mining.
