New Cleveland Street Bridge
Plaque on former road bridge, New Cleveland Street, HU8 7EX
This road bridge was built by Hull company Rose Downs Thompson Ltd, in 1902. It was the first bridge in Great Britain to be built of ferro concrete, using the Hennebique system. As such, it is a Grade II listed building. The bridge originally spanned the Foredyke Stream, but this has since been filled in, so only the bridge’s parapets are now visible. One parapet has the commemorative plaque on it, and another has the three crowns of Hull’s coat of arms.
